March 2008

The warm weather is starting which means there have been several pennings added to the schedule.  If you know someone wanting to put on a penning please have them contact me to check to see if a date is available and for a contract.  Promoters can have a penning every 25 days, however you will still need to have your contract and deposit in to Carol 30 days prior for insurance purposes.  Please remember there must be 125 miles between pennings being scheduled on the same day.

We now have over 50% of the association receiving their newsletter via the website.  If you are receiving the newsletter by mail and have access to the internet.  Please let me know your e-mail address and I will get you switched over.  Also if you send me an e-mail I will respond so you know I received it.  If you do not hear from me please resend your e-mail.

Billy Ray Richard has resigned as the Southwest Director.  Ben Sayle will be replacing Billy Ray on the board.  Thanks Billy Ray and welcome Ben!

We are accepting cattle bids for supplying cattle at the finals in August.  If you know someone interested in supplying cattle, please have them contact an officer or director for a bid letter.  Bids are due back to Carol by May 1st.

At the last meeting the board voted to remove the policy prohibiting a #2 rated rider being lowered to a #1 rated rider

Prizes for year-end and the finals were discussed.  Year-end saddles for the high point #5, #4, #3, #2, and #1 riders will come from M&K Custom Saddles.  Gist buckles will be given in the Over 50 class for places 1st through 3rd.  In the #5, #4, #3, #2, and #1 ratings buckles will be given for places 2nd through 5th.  The board tabled the year end awards until the next meeting for the youth class, 4th and 5th places in the Over 50, and 6th through 10th places in the #5, #4, #3, #2, and #1 ratings.

For the teams that win the Open, #9 and #5 classes you will have choices to make before you leave the finals on Sunday.  You can either receive a check for $825, or a voucher from either M&K Custom Saddles or Tucker’s Trading Post for $825.00 toward a saddle.  Tucker’s has offered to add an additional $100 to the voucher for anyone taking a voucher to their shop.  If you choose a voucher you must order your saddle by September 18th.  The vouchers will have the information that needs to be stamped on the saddles such as year, class and MOTPA.  There is not a particular saddle you will be ordering.  You will go to the place you pick your voucher from and pick out your saddle from them.

Gist buckles will be given to the teams finishing 2nd through 5th at the finals in the Open, #9 an #5 classes.  Teams placing 1st through 3rd in the Over 50 class will also receive buckles.  The board tabled the finals awards until next meeting for places 6th through 10th in the Open, #9 & #5 classes, 4th and 5th places in the Over 50, and all places in the Youth class.

Don’t forget about the “For Sale” page on the website.  The Board voted to allow two items to be advertised on the website page with a paid membership.  Any additional items will cost $10 each.

Also don’t forget to donate a $1.00 out of each check you win toward the scholarship program.  Please let the office help at the pennings know if you would like to do so.  They will deduct the $1.00 from each check and send it to the association marked for the scholarship fund.  Based on last year’s figures, if everyone donated $1.00 per check we would raise $2,300 for scholarships.  If you have an idea to help out the program, please let your director know!

Please remember if you have a concern about something please get with your director.  They are there to be your voice on the Board.

The next Board of Director’s meeting will be at Golden Corral in Sedalia on May 5, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.  We will be finishing up choosing awards for the year-end and finals and awarding the cattle bid.  If anyone would like to present a quote or bid, please get it to an officer or director before the meeting.

Until next time!

Danny & Carol
